Wookey Hole Caves, Somerset
The main footpath to the entrance of the cave tour was starting to show minor signs of movement.
RARR were asked to provide a solution to some minor cracking and movement with in a footpath. The solution was to install 4no 2.5m rock anchors, the anchors were hand drilled using pneumatic rock drills, RARR then installed anti erosion matting to reduce the about of soil erosion caused by rainfall draining in this area, this matting will also help and encourage the growth of vegetation that will also help to reduce the erosion issues.
Once all 4 holes were drilled and the anchors bars fixed with grout, large wooden sleepers were put in place and torqued onto the rock face.
The anchors were suitability tested using a hydraulic “pull out” test.
